The Integrated Cheque Processing (ICP) is a complex information system
for cheque processing at Veobecná úverová banka (VÚB).
The ICP system solves the central processing of bank cheques from foreign issuers
in Slovak Crowns and in foreign currencies, sale of traveller's cheques (CITICORP
and AMEXCO) to VUB's clients, purchase of EC cheques, and processing of cheques
received for collection.
The system was deployed in the production at the end of 1996, and it is currently
being used by 20 VUB staff.

The goals of the introduction of the ICP were:
- Increase the effectiveness of cheque processing
- Allow parallel access to data by multiple users of the system
- Ensure the security of the system
- Cope with the increasing quantity of data
- Integrate the system with other systems of the bank
The ICP system covers the following:
- Received cheques processing:
- Cheque recording
- Sending cheques to be cashed at paying banks
- Payment accounting and cheque cancellation
- Generation of pre-defined summary reports
- Sold cheques processing:
- Ordering cheques at their issuers
- Recording cheque deliveries from issuers
- Recording cheques at VUB's organizational units
- Ordering cheque transfers between VUB's organizational units
- Cheque accounting, cancellation, refunding and claims
- Generation of pre-defined summary reports

The increase of the effectivenss of cheque processing was achieved by the electronic
exchange of information between the ICP system and other VUB's banking systems.
The system is built on the platform of Microsoft products. The application
is operated under Microsoft Windows NT, which significantly contributes
to the increased security and overall effectiveness of the system.
The server side uses the Microsoft SQL 6.5 database system, which ensures
thorough protection of recorded data and their processing in time and at the
required extent. The client side uses Gratex International's publication application
Visual SQL Browser, which merges the advantages of ICP's easy operation
and the possibility of simple and fast inclusion of possible new requirements
into the system.

The used technologies, including the built in security and protective element,
represent a highest-class standard of data protection against unauthorized access.
