Internet in Twist - Twist on Internet

The Radio TWIST has rapidly found its way to listeners, especially through quality information provided in the spirit of the company's mission statement 'trust the quality.' The credibility of TWIST lies upon the high professionalism of its producers, outstanding program structure, economic stability, and sound, transparent sales and financial policies. TWIST's signal covers most of the Slovak region, and it is one of the Slovak radio stations with very dynamic growth.

On the waves" of the Internet
Gratex International Corporation was given a chance to cooperate with this top radio team in the field of Internet-based technologies. Gratex created not only the infrastructure that allows operation of the WEB server of TWIST, but it also operates the technology that allows TWIST to air "on the waves" of the Internet.

Current Situation
he cooperation has gone even further. The Production Department of the radio station, which deals with casting single programs with presenters and guests, or with marketing ready-made programs to other entities, had to manage the entire agenda manually. This situation was very unacceptable, since it didn't allow for dissemination of information among individual Production Department employees, as well as among presenters who deal directly with the information concerning individual programs.

The problem was solved by creating an intranet-oriented information system enabling its users to have an operative overview of all programs being broadcast. This solution enables accessing the source of information by several users at the same time. Information can be monitored and also modified.

The application architecture consists of several databases:
The broadcast programs database - consists of the list of programs that are being broadcast within the effective program structure
The program types database - consists of the list all program types that are being broadcast within the effective program structure
The presenters database - stores the data on all presenters of programs or provide other forms of input into the radio station broadcast
The program attribute database - stores the specific data on presenters, guests, commercial status, and single input blocks that are assigned to an individual program.

A statistics module is also a part of the application. Among other things, it permits a numerical overview of the number of presented programs and input blocks, broken down by individual presenters, which is of significance when calculating wages due.

Another advantage of this solution is that its user interface is based upon the architecture of MS Internet Explorer and MS Office. This fact significantly shortened the training period for final users.

Hardware requirements for the application are: server a double processor system of Intel Pentium Pro 266 MHz, 128 MB RAM, a disk array of 10 GB capacity. The server works in the operating system environment of MS Windows NT 4.0, with activated services of MS IIS Server 4.0 and MS SQL Server 6.5. As for the client working station, an operating system of MS Workstation 4.0 and MS Internet Explorer 4.0 was installed. A working station has to have at least 32 MB RAM.
